About this trip

To my dear brothers and sister in Christ,
I was introduced to the Bible at a young age. I grew up with it, reading its stories and lessons in the
confused and imaginative way of a child. That changed – admittedly slowly – as I moved through
high school and into college. I had a huge jump in my understanding and appreciation of the Sacred
Scriptures when I studied it in earnest in the seminary.
I would say, however, that the largest leap in my life with the Scriptures came when I first visited the Holy
Land of Jesus in 2013. The actual ground where the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us; the land
of all those patriarchs who came before Him, and of His many disciples who came after. It was as if my
imagination of the people and places of that ancient world had always been a bit misplaced, fuzzy, and in
black and white. That first visit to modern-day Israel and Palestine rendered my imagination forever in
high-definition and vivid color. It has allowed me to fill in those intimate, human details, and allows me to
more fruitfully enter the biblical environment I paint in my mind.
I would love for you to have that same life-altering experience: to pick up the Bible after your return,
read something in the Gospel and exclaim, “I’ve been there; I know that place! I’ve stood on the Temple
Mount is where Jesus foreshadowed his resurrection. I walked into the ruins of that synagogue in
Capernaum where Jesus preached about the Bread of Life. I know how cool the waters of the Galilee
are where Jesus called Peter, James, and John to ‘cast out into the deep,’ and how hot the banks of the
Jordan can get where John the Baptist proclaimed, ‘behold the Lamb of God.’”
I’m inviting you to journey with me on this life-changing, eternity-improving pilgrimage to the Holy Land!
