About this trip
Beloved Parishioners of St. Elizabeth,
As your pastor, it brings me great joy to personally invite you to join me on a parish pilgrimage to Portugal, Spain, and France.
Our St. Elizabeth community is a loving, faith-filled parish. While many of us have traveled or gone on pilgrimages individually, there is a special grace in making a pilgrimage together—as one parish family. It deepens our faith, strengthens our bonds, and renews our love for Christ and His Church.
In the midst of today’s busy and noisy world, stepping away for a sacred pilgrimage allows us to refocus our hearts on God. These are not vacations—they are powerful spiritual experiences that open us to God’s grace through prayer, reflection, and sacred encounters.
We will visit holy sites where saints lived, prayed, and were transformed:
In Portugal, we’ll walk in the footsteps of St. Anthony in Lisbon and visit Fatima, where Our Lady appeared to the three shepherd children.
In Spain, we’ll visit Salamanca, Burgos, Garabandal, and Loyola, the birthplace of St. Ignatius.
In France, we will conclude in Lourdes, where Our Lady appeared to St. Bernadette, and where countless pilgrims have found healing and peace.
This pilgrimage will be a time to pray in gratitude, lift up the needs of our families, and ask God’s blessings for our parish and our Church. If I am not mistaken, this will be the first parish-wide pilgrimage in our 135-year history—a truly grace-filled milestone.
I warmly encourage you to prayerfully consider joining us. Space is limited, so please make your reservation soon. Let us walk this sacred path together, united in faith, hope, and love.
In Christ’s peace and love,
Fr. Raju Macherla
Pastor, St. Elizabeth Catholic Church

Day 5: FATIMA-COIMBRA-SALAMANCA
This morning, after breakfast, we will leave Fatima and we will travel to Coimbra to visit St Teresa of Avila Covent. As a Discalced Carmelite Convent, this is similar to many other Carmelite convents; however, there has been one notable occupant of the convent: Sister Lucia, one of the visionaries of Fatima. The Fatima apparitions took place in 1917, and Sister Lucia moved to Porto in 1921. In 1925, she entered the Institute of the Sisters of St. Dorothy as a postulant in the convent in Tui, Spain, just across the northern Portuguese border. In 1948
she entered the Carmelite convent in Coimbra and took her vows on May 31, 1949, taking the religious name Sister Maria Lúcia of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart. As a cloistered nun, she had little contact with the outside world (perhaps her most famous visitor was Pope John Paul II). She lived here until her death in 2005. We visit of the ancient University and the Library. After the visit, we depart to Salamanca. Arrival in the evening, accommodation in our hotel, dinner and overnight. Celebrate Holy Mass.
Day 6: SALAMANCA-BURGOS

The past is visible in the Old Cathedral, the huge Plaza Mayor and the Monterrey Palace, all splendid buildings that rightfully earned the city a place on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list in 1988. Celebrate Holy Mass. At the end of the Visits transfer to Burgos. Accommodation in our hotel, dinner and overnight.
Day 7: BURGOS-GARABANDAL
After breakfast, we visit. Burgos, the capital city of the unified kingdom of Castile and Leon for five centuries. Its Cathedralboasts one of the masterpieces of Spanish Gothic style and is declared a World Heritage Site. Built on a Romanesque canvas, the current building followed the Franco-Norman Gothic style. The filigrees on the tower spiers and the exterior volume of the Chapel of El Condestable are some of its masterpieces. Inside, this beauty and creative genius is complemented by a long list of exceptional works: the starry dome that covers the tombs of El Cid and Doña Jimena, the choir, the tombs, and the Golden Staircase by the Burgos architect and sculptor Diego de Siloé, one of the most representative figures of the Spanish Renaissance. The historic center of Burgos ends with two important buildings: to the west rises the Monastery of Santa María Real de las Huelgas, and its remarkable Gothic cloister and chapel of the Apostle Santiago. Nearby, the Museo de Ricas Telas showcases, for example, the historic banners seized from the Arabs in the Battle of Las Navas de Tolosa (year 1212). To the east, in Cartuja de Miraflores you can find an impressive polychrome altarpiece, and other art works. According to tradition, it was gilded with the first gold brought to Spain after the discovery of America. At the end of the visits travel to San Sebastian of Garbandal, dinner and overnight. Celebrate Holy Mass.
Day 8: GARABANDAL-SAN SEBASTIAN
After breakfast, start your day visiting Garabandal. In June 18, 1961 four children had an apparition first of an Angel, sent to prepare the children for a visit from the Virgin. From July 2, 1961 sporadically until Nov 13, 1965, the Blessed Virgin visited them, speaking, guiding and confiding secrets of future events. The children reported a promised future miracle at the grove of pine trees on a bluff overlooking the village of Garabandal. It will be on the feast-day of a little known martyr of the Eucharist and coincide with an event in the Church. In the afternoon, transfer to San Sebastian. Accommodation in our hotel, dinner and overnight. Celebrate Holy Mass.
